George Fujii, LEED AP, Senior Project Manager -- We gave a quick presentation to our tour guests while they munched on sandwiches. I guess you can sometimes take for granted what a nice working space we have here at Tarlton, because our guests were very impressed with what they saw.
The natural light from the large two-story-high windows on the north side really floods our workspace nicely. You get the sensation you have been outside even if you are in all day, not to mention the improved air quality created by the large volumes of space, which allow for increased ventilation.
When people asked about the benefits of going green with our building, I relayed a story of how we have retained nearly 90% of our interns from the past three summers, how some of that must be connected to the way they feel about the building we inhabit as a company, and what that says about upper management and their commitment to their employees’ well-being. Though not directly green, I mentioned the playroom area on the second floor, another great workplace feature when you are in a pinch and have to watch your kids and still get your work done.
All in all, the benefits of going green have served Tarlton well, and it was nice to be able to talk about that with our tour guests. Hopefully they can make beneficial green improvements in their workspaces too!
