Bryce Cooper, Marketing Manager -- Construction continues of the gallery and parking garage addition to the Saint Louis Art Museum. Concrete abounds on this project, showing its versatility through different shapes and forms.
The new 3-level garage, built of concrete decks held up by cylindrical concrete columns, is lined with walls of concrete masonry blocks.
Above, the gallery structure will be clad on the outside with massive panels of black concrete buffed to reveal the native Missouri stones used as aggregate.
Inside, the galleries will be illuminated by natural daylight conveyed through a deeply recessed ceiling structure made of—you guessed it—concrete, to which will be attached a system of panels. A special concrete mix achieves a lighter color and a smooth finish to transmit light softly and evenly.
