PROJECT NOTES
Tarlton helped transform the lower level of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation’s Tadao Ando-designed building into new public spaces for exhibitions, programs and artist-driven activities. Previously used as offices and storage space, the two new galleries increase the Pulitzer’s programmable space by nearly 50 percent.
The expansion represents the first major alteration to the building since it opened in 2001 and adds 3,700 sf of space to 7,500 sf of existing galleries. The renovated lower level was designed to improve the visitor’s ability to move naturally through the building via the opening of a second stairway to the lower-level galleries.
The work was completed to exacting standards, and the project won a Keystone Award from the Associated General Contractors of Missouri.
