This 2-story building in the Grand Center theater district presents a dramatic composition with a striking curved wall that defines the street corner. The 27,200 sf structure is built of exposed concrete with a light water blast finish specified by the architect, Allied Works.
Tarlton’s team successfully handled the inherent challenges of constructing huge cast-in-place wall panels placed in a specific sequence on the tight site. We built a panel frame form system using unusually large sheets of Wisa plastic-coated plywood and aluma beams. Wedged gang forms shaped the varying radius wall components.
A concrete cantilever wall extends above the entrance/lobby. The main level houses galleries, a café, bookshop, courtyard, plus space for media, performance or lectures. The second level contains classrooms, a resource center and administrative offices.
