Earth & Planetary Sciences break room photo by Debbie Franke

Earth & Planetary Sciences, Washington University
This 148,000 sf, LEED Certified building united the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences into a single 4-story building. The building accommodates 133 laboratories.

From a construction standpoint, completing a free-standing facility housing multiple laboratory spaces and 30 sterile clean rooms was an unusual and complex undertaking. Challenges included installation of a highly sophisticated laboratory system involving miles of ductwork, piping and wiring before the exterior envelope was completed.

To meet the schedule, Tarlton worked on interiors and exteriors concurrently and in carefully planned phases.
