Industry Veteran John Doerr Named to Speakers Panel at AGC of Missouri Event

ST. LOUIS (March 8, 2024) – John Doerr, P.E., executive vice president of Tarlton – St. Louis’ largest women-owned general contracting and construction management firm – will be a panelist at the Leaders & Legends Construction Leadership Council (CLC) Speaker Series by the AGC of Missouri on March 12.

As one of three panelists selected for the event this year, Doerr will provide insights into how attendees can put the information shared by panel members into practice at the workplace. On a personal note, he will discuss his career achievements; triumphs in leadership and crisis management; Tarlton’s active role in the development of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace; the critical importance of mentoring and motivating personnel; and how to foster and maintain strong industry relationships. As executive vice president at Tarlton, Doerr has been a key component in the firm’s growth for the last 40 years. In his executive leadership role, he has overseen work acquisition, estimating and preconstruction, as well as focusing on Tarlton’s heavy civil and industrial performance. He also actively engages in the recruitment of new talent and educating the industry’s next generation of leaders. “One of my biggest goals – and something that I find particularly fulfilling – is speaking to young people who are interested in working in our industry,” he said. “Cultivating and mentoring new talent and engaging with them about all topics regarding Tarlton and our industry is very rewarding.”

A registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri, Doerr has more than 20 years of experience in estimating and has been a member of the American Society for Health Care Engineering since 2008. He served as Tarlton project executive on dozens of projects for clients including BJC HealthCare, Washington University in St. Louis, The Muny, St. Louis Community College and others.

“John’s wisdom and deep understanding for our work in the industry is unparalleled and has been instrumental to our growth and success as one of the region’s top builders,” said Tarlton President Tracy Hart. “Our team members benefit each day from his wealth of knowledge, experience in contract negotiations and the strong management skills that he brings to every project.”

Doerr launched his career at Tarlton as a project estimator in 1983, the same year he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Four years later, he was promoted to manager of estimating, serving in that capacity for six years before being named a project director in 1994; a vice president in 1999; a senior vice president in 2002; and executive vice president in 2019.

Doerr is active in community outreach and in the industry. He is a member of the Signature Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors, which provides financial assistance for area individuals and families whose health care needs are not covered by health insurance. The organization also hosts the annual Gateway Dragon Boat Festival, at which the Tarlton team is a long-time participant. He is a past chairman of the Saint Louis Art Museum Corporate Partnership Program and also served on the Cor Jesu Academy Principal’s Council. Doerr served as chairman of the Building Division for the Associated General Contractors of Missouri in 2017, and has been an active member of the AGCMO since 1984.
